UKRD (UK Research & Development) is a representative body for research in the NHS, promoting excellence, discipline and professional development within R&D leadership. In consultation with our members, they enable high quality research, develop and share best practice and clear standards, and help the financial sustainability of NHS R&D through their support of trusts and commercial partners. 

More recently, the JRO has been involved in the establishment of a national network of Joint Research Offices.

King’s Health Partners brings together research, education and clinical practice across three NHS Foundation Trusts - Guy’s and St Thomas’, King’s College Hospital, and South London and Maudsley - and a world-leading university, King’s College London.

They improve health and care services by translating early scientific research, discoveries, and ideas to benefit patients and their communities. They train and develop future generations of healthcare professionals.

The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Research Delivery Network (RDN) is funded by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) to enable the health and care system to attract, optimise and deliver research across England. 

The network consists of 12 Regional Research Delivery Networks (RRDNs) and a Coordinating Centre (RDNCC), working together as one organisation with joint leadership.

They contribute to NIHR’s mission to improve the health and wealth of the nation through research.

Driving innovation and support the development of HealthTech solutions to address the unmet needs outlined in the NHS Long Term Plan. They offer expertise to assess innovations and enhance the efficiency of translating them into practical applications, ensuring quicker access to technology for patients. They strengthen collaboration between industry, academia, and the health and care system, expanding capacity at this interface. Additionally, they foster inward investment and trade by assisting companies, especially SMEs, in bringing their innovations to market in the UK.

The Centre for Translational Medicine brings together the organisations of King’s Health Partners and generous funding from the Guy's and St Thomas' Charity to work in partnership to improve the health of people locally, nationally, and globally.

This is through accelerating research and innovation that improves the detection, prevention, and treatment of disease. 

The Centre for Translational Medicine aims to: 

  • address the major health burdens for local, national and global communities – and to challenge existing health inequalities;  
  • combine our outstanding clinical and scientific expertise to deliver excellent outcomes for patients;   
  • develop the next generation of clinical-academic leaders, skilled in delivering impactful translational biomedical research.

NIHR CRFs are state-of-the-art, purpose built facilities based in NHS hospitals that are dedicated to delivering early phase, experimental medicine and high-risk studies. This includes first-in-patient trials and those that require dedicated space and specialist expertise.

King’s Clinical Trials Unit exists to assure excellence, efficiency and transparency in the design, conduct, analysis and reporting of clinical trials, for the benefit of patients and society.

KCTU is formed of collaborative academic and operational teams, supporting a portfolio of high-quality clinical trials. Centralised expertise streamlines delivery of the most complex aspects of trials.

The London Institute for Healthcare Engineering (LIHE) embodies King’s College London’s mission to make the world a better place.

In a building dedicated to bringing MedTech innovations to patients and the market, they offer hands-on executive support for medical innovations from across the UK and give MedTech entrepreneurs the confidence to proceed at pace from bench to bedside to boardroom.

The Clinical Trials Office (CTO) aims to support and advise our investigators with the administrative and regulatory requirements that come with conducting clinical research. By providing a dedicated and specialised support function across King’s Health Partners, the Clinical Trials Office ensures quicker start-up times for trials and means that our investigators can focus on the science and medicine of clinical research and concentrate on managing those patients involved. The Office also provides an attractive environment for the commercial market in which to conduct trials. The commercial team includes facilitators, agreement associates, a feasibility specialist and finance support. Investigators also have the support of the Quality Team for training in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and management of quality issues.
