This section of the website shines a spotlight on the vital but often ‘unsung heroes’ of the research management world. Over the coming months, we will be focussing on key areas of research management support at KCL and GSTT.

Spotlight on Research Contracts

Research contracts are vital for defining the terms and conditions under which research is conducted. They establish clear expectations and responsibilities for all parties involved, including funding, timelines, deliverables, and intellectual property rights. By formalizing agreements, research contracts help prevent misunderstandings and disputes, ensuring that projects run smoothly and efficiently. They also provide legal protection and accountability, fostering a collaborative environment that supports research, innovation and the successful completion of research objectives.

Spotlight on Research Governance

Research governance is crucial for ensuring the integrity, quality, and safety of research activities. It provides a framework that guides researchers in adhering to ethical standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices. Effective governance helps protect the rights and well-being of participants, ensures the reliability of data, and fosters public trust in research outcomes. By promoting transparency and accountability, research governance supports the advancement of knowledge while safeguarding against misconduct and ensuring that research benefits society as a whole.

Celebrating the Engine Room of Translational and Clinical Research

Red for Research 2025.jpgOn Red for Research Day 2025, Lloyd had the privilege of spending the day with the Guy’s & St Thomas’ R&D Management Team celebrating the incredible contributions they make to translational and clinical research across the Trust and beyond. Behind every breakthrough in translational and clinical research, R&D management teams are there providing advice and support to our amazing researchers.

From the earliest spark of an idea to the delivery of life-changing treatments, R&D management teams play a pivotal role in transforming scientific discovery into real-world impact. Though not always visible, their vital expertise drives the design of robust studies, ensures regulatory compliance, and fosters collaboration across disciplines. Whether developing novel methodologies, managing complex data, or navigating ethical approvals, R&D management teams are the engine room that powers progress.

Their work bridges the gap between laboratory science and patient care, ensuring that the research is not only possible but practical and accessible. Thanks to their dedication, countless research projects move from concept to clinic - improving outcomes, advancing knowledge, and changing lives.

Here in the JRO, we wanted to thank our R&D Management teams at GSTT and KCL for their tireless efforts and unwavering commitment to advancing health and science.

Let’s continue to champion research together, because behind every discovery is a team that made it happen!!
